Projection imaging with ultracold neutrons

Ultracold neutron (UCN) projection imaging is demonstrated using a boron-coated back-illuminated CCD camera and the Los Alamos UCN source. Each recorded through capture reactions with 10B. By direct detection at least one of byproducts α, 7Li γ (electron recoils) derived from reduction thermal noise scientific camera, signal-to-noise improvement on order 104 over indirect has been achieved. Sub-pixel position resolution few microns confirmed for individual events. Projection test objects shows spatial less than 100μm by an integrated flux 106 cm−2. The bCCD can be used to build detectors area 1 m2. combination micrometer scale resolution, low readout electrons, large makes suitable quantum science UCN.
